As the Head of the English Department and School Counselor, I had the pleasure of teaching Mohammed Mostafa in his 12th grade English Language and Literature class at American Academy School. From the first day of class, Mohammed impressed me with his ability to articulate complex concepts and texts, his sensitivity to the nuances within the literature, and his passion for reading, writing, and creative expression – both in and out of the classroom. Mohammed is a talented literary critic and poet, and he has my highest recommendation as a student and writer.

Mohammed is talented at considering the subtleties within literature and the purpose behind authors’ works. He produced an extraordinary year-long thesis paper on creative identity development, in which he compared works from three different time periods and synthesized cultural and historical perspectives to inform his analysis. When called upon to give his thesis defence in front of his peers, Mohammed spoke clearly and eloquently about his conclusions and responded to questions in a thoughtful way. Outside of the classroom, Mohammed is dedicated to his literary pursuits, especially to poetry. He publishes his poetry in our school’s literary magazine, as well as in online magazines. He is an insightful, sensitive, and deeply self-aware individual driven to explore art, writing, and a deeper understanding of the human condition.

Mohammed was an active participant in our discussions throughout the year, and he always supported his peers. His caring nature and personality allow him to work well with others in a team setting, as he always respects others’ opinions even when they differ from his own. Mohammed has participated in many academic and non-academic extracurricular activities – Film and Media, Photography, Multimedia and Graphic Design, Photoshop, Human and Social Science Study, Art and Drama, International Study, Debate and Model United Nations Conference, Planet Georgetown Workshops, Georgetown Pre-College Summer Program, Summer Internship Program and many other. His notable extracurricular activities are GCI MUN 2017 at UN Headquarter; Cambridge University MUN 2014-17 in the United Kingdom; Asia-Pacific MUN 2015 in Australia; THIMUN Leadership Conference 2015-17 in Qatar; Georgetown University MUN 2015-17 in Qatar; Georgetown University MUN Training in Qatar; Qatar School Debate League 2015-17 by QatarDebate, a member of Qatar Foundation in Qatar; Certified Debater, Judge and Debate Coach Training by QatarDebate in Qatar; Photographer of Vodafone and Chevrolet Qatar, Columnist and Intern of “I Love Qatar (ILQ)” Newspaper and Al Jazeera English; Volunteer Coordinator of Porsche Club Qatar, The Color Run Qatar, Doha Golf Club, Ooredoo Qatar, The Youth Company and Qatar Charity.

I am confident that Mohammed is going to continue to do great and creative things in the future. I highly recommend him for admission to your undergraduate program. He is talented, caring, intuitive, dedicated, and focused in his pursuits. Mohammed consistently seeks out constructive feedback to improve his writing skills, which is a rare and impressive quality in a high school student. Mohammed is genuinely a stand-out individual who will impress everyone he meets. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
